The studio is a straw
bale construction, framed by large logs and natural rockwork. This makes it ideal acoustically and thermally. The main recording room is 9m x 9m (27ft x 27ft) with a ceiling 5m high (15ft) at the apex.
The project took about 12 months to complete and involved many helpers, professional and voluntary. The construction method is similar to infill, except that the bales are mounted outside the frame, as seen in the pictures. The timber and stone are all sourced from the property, and most of the other materials used are from the local area (see the credits page for details).
Power is supplied by 28 solar panels, with 3-day battery storage capacity for times of low sun, and a 15Kw generator for backup.
